HEXTRA - playful modules link up to create public hang out ‘scapes
JUXTA, a not for profit arts and design program for Minneapolis youth, commissioned Lazor / Office to design a retail product to bring us together in public spaces and raise revenue for their programs. The result, HEXTRA, is a playful, modular furniture design that creates a hang out landscape for public spaces. Each HEXTRA module functions as furniture with an unprescribed function. When aggregated in multiples, HEXTRA functions as an open ended landscape for public gathering - sit, lay, lean, drape, wait, lounge, eat, read, stop by, hang out. From a single mod side table in your home to an infinite field of mods for many, HEXTRA can be scaled for S/M/LXL/XXL spaces, indoors and outdoors.
Inspired by naturally occurring hexagonal, basalt column landscapes, the six sides of each module are designed to nest together and grow outward to wherever and in whatever direction. The three heights create dynamic level changes for an on the fly definition. The powder-coated aluminum comes in weatherproof commercial grade durable custom colors with custom graphics and easily dis-assembles into a compact nugget for storage.
"Juxtaposition Arts develops community by engaging and employing young urban artists in hands-on education initiatives that create pathways to self-sufficiency while actualizing creative power.” Lazor Office is honored to collaborate with this young, talented team to prototype and develop an exciting new product. If you are interested in purchasing HEXTRA modules to enhance a space and support the Juxtaposition Arts mission, connect with us or Juxtaposition Arts for details.
